Student Initiatives
Currently in Queensland there are four Rural Health Clubs that have been created to provide their student members with exposure to rural, remote, and indigenous health issue awareness and practice.
These clubs are operated by students and are made up of members from both rural and regional areas that are committed to promoting and improving health-care in rural, remote, and indigenous communities in Queensland.
The RDAQ Conference presents a forum through which the medical student members of these clubs can learn more about the industry and gain valuable exposure to both clinical and political aspects of rural health. It is also a great opportunity for networking with future colleagues and the support provided by RDAQ and the attending doctors will help to shape the future rural health workforce.
Please read below for the different ways in which medical students can access this opportunity.
Student sponsorship
Are you a doctor or an organisation wishing to sponsor a student?
By providing sponsorship for student registration, you ensure a wide variety of medical students are represented at the conference. All student sponsorship is distributed via the Rural Health Clubs in Queensland and assists the clubs to subsidise their members’ attendance.
To sponsor a student, please complete the relevant section on the conference registration form. Your assistance in helping the students of Queensland access this opportunity is greatly appreciated!
Student attendance
Are you a student that would like to attend the RDAQ Conference?
Attending the RDAQ Conference is a fantastic opportunity for you to gain further insight into the political side of rural health and improve your knowledge of rural health issues. You also have the valuable opportunity to improve your skills, network with your future colleagues and improve your knowledge of emerging ideas and technology.
Student delegate registration is organised by the Rural Health Club at your University. Attending as a student is a great opportunity because the clubs are able to subsidise some of the cost associated with attendance. Once you graduate, you will have to pay full price so make the most of your student status! If you are a member of your Rural Health Club, you will receive an email in the beginning of the year calling for applications.
For more information please talk to your relevant Rural Health Club. Applications generally open in March.

Student presentations
Are you a student who would like to present at the RDAQ Conference?
As a student, your involvement in the RDAQ Conference greatly contributes to its success. There is a session in the program where Queensland medical students have the opportunity to present to conference delegates on issues relating to you. It is a popular session amongst both doctor and student attendees and a wonderful opportunity to discuss a personally significant aspect of rural health education, training and/or practice.
The advertisement for abstract submissions will be done via your Rural Health Club so be sure to become a member. You will receive an email about this early in the year.
Scholarship forum
Another session at the conference is the Scholarship Forum. This has been a fantastic opportunity for current and past scholarship holders to come together, discuss their experiences and issues, and present them to various scholarship funding and support bodies.
Come along in 2010 and have your voice heard.
